Julie Mehretu’s work is simple amazing in it’s complexity, beauty, technical prowess and sheer visual power. I just saw her show at the Guggenheim and was blown away. These paintings simply cannot be properly seen or felt on a computer monitor or through a photograph; you must see them in their full scale in person. Her drawn forms are endlessly inventive and mysterious. There’s a sense of atmospher and place in her work; it’s so much more than simply beautiful abstraction.
